6 months ago was the most turbulent period of my life,

I was in severe pains and dilemma…I started having difficulty with seeing at night. After a while,

I started having blurred vision even during the day. 

It started with my left eye and I thought maybe it was just a normal thing that it would soon go away….

After much process and dealings, the Doctor said I has enlarged Glaucoma. 

“Glaucoma gini?” I asked him

He told me that the real main cause of Glaucoma is unknown and most times, it could be inherited…

Although, it is majorly believed that pressure in the eye causes it.

Also, he said having a high BP or Low BP could also increase the risk of having Glaucoma.

He also went on to add that it mostly causes irreversible loss of sight, especially if not treated early enough. And it could also come with cataract.

He told me he needed to conduct some further tests to see if how chronic it is and whether it also comes with cataract but he will place me on a temporary treatment.

It was some couple of eyedrops on my eye….

I didn’t really like the treatment because it made my eye itchy and watery most of the time…so I had to close them….but  who am I to complain?

While on the hospital bed, I started to think about my life and shook my head…

Because few months ago, I wasn’t like this… 

How come God?

What Have I done Wrong? 

Who did I offend?

Or is it my sin?

I couldn’t even open up my eyes to look up at my husband and we didn’t say anything to each other but the silence was thick with sorrow and sadness.

My Children couldn’t come to visit me as they were with my sister.I couldn’t even bear the pain or the energy to explain to them what is happening to their Father.

The Doctor finished the test, came back with the results and started to administer even drugs to me.

He told me that verifiably, I had Glaucoma and Cataract. The cataract is responsible mostly for the blurry vision but the Glaucoma is what is causing the pain in my eye.

He asked whether anyone in our family has been blind before…I thought for a moment and I remembered that my Grandfather(from my mother’s side) was blind….

He said that most times, Glaucoma can’t be cured by drugs, but only managed by the drugs and eyedrops and that ultimate solution to my problems is to perform surgery.

This surgery isn’t guaranteed to cure it as there is no 100% guarantee that it will go…Also, even after the surgery, the cataract could increase and worsen.

So, it was a 50/50 thing

If not done, the cataract will spread and affect my other eye, while the Glaucoma will cause total loss of vision….

I.e. I will become blind and with this, there will be no remedy or solution to it.

I told him to let me go think about it as I will continue with the drug administration.

I was discharged much later but still on Treatment…I was given glasses to use, drugs and even eyedrops.

All these didn’t cure it,

It just helped suppress the pain and the cataract. After using these treatments for a while, the problem will come back just like before

Sometimes, even while on glasses, 

My eyes will even start to really pain me and water will be coming out…
